Johnny Ryan is my God Now!
Speaking of my friend Dan, I don’t think I’ve been the same since Dan turned me on to cartoonist Johnny Ryan’s work. Disgusting, vulgar, sick, offensive, and thoroughly wonderful, Ryan’s work spoofs every possible kind of stereotype and taboo known to man. It’s like reading comics by the dirtiest 5th grader on Earth. I now own The Comic Book Holocaust - the collection of Johnny’s Klassic Komix Klub - where he draws dirty parodies of superhero comics, graphic novels, classic literature, etc. My favorite is a spoof of Fantastic Four where Mr. Fantastic stretches his penis to have sex with the Invisible Woman only to have it catch on a very visible turd in her ass. Yep, that’s about the level of humor we’re talking about here. It’s like the Tijuana Bibles for the modern age. I’ve also got XXX Scumbag Party and What are you Lookin At? which are the anthologies of Johnny’s comic book Angry Youth Comix, the cover of the most recent issue is printed after the jump.
This issue features a cartoon where a group of cartoonists who want to draw New Yorker cartoons who have to service in a variety of deliciously fucked up ways a walking talking issue of the New Yorker. It’s probably at your local fucked up comic book store - in New York at Forbidden Planet and in Brooklyn at Rocket Ship.
Johnny will also do a personal drawing for $100 bucks, like the ones seen above, if you send him the cash and the description of what you want. He’s just that awesome, and I’ve decided that it would make an awesome birthday gift. My Dad is turning 60 in two weeks - do you think he would like something like this?
Okay, I’ll throw up one more, and this time an actual example of his strip. This is from his most recent Klassic Komix Klub, and I particularly love his rip on Alison Bechdel’s Fun Home comic, which I read in five minutes and found as boring as the character in the strip does.
