Adam Baran is a filmmaker and writer based out of New York City. Adam studied writing and directing at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, graduating in 2003 with a B.A. in Film and Television Production. During his junior year he spent a semester studying screenwriting at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, where a staged reading of his script “Death and Disaster” took place.

In his final semester at NYU, Adam directed the short film “Love and Deaf,” a twisted 7 minute romantic comedy set in a seedy Central Park bathroom. Love and Deaf premiered at the 2004 Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. The film then went on to screen to sold out crowds at scores of major gay and lesbian film festivals around the world including the New York Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, Frameline’s San Francisco International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, the London Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, and at similiar festivals in Atlanta, Nashville, Tampa, Brussels, Karlsruhe, Hamburg, Long Island, Fire Island, Portland, Austin, Seattle, Melbourne, and more.

“Love and Deaf” was later released on DVD in North America in 2005 through Water Bearer Films. The film was included as a bonus feature on the feature DVD “Apart from Hugh,” and is currently available at select video stores and through Netflix. Later in the same year, two foreign DVD distributors acquired Love and Deaf for inclusion on gay-themed short film compilations. In Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, Salzgeber and Co. included the film on the compilation “Jungs von nebenan.” In France, Brussels, and Switzerland Antiprod and Co. included it on the 10th volume of their acclaimed shorts collection “Courts Mais Gays. The cable channel Here! TV also acquired “Love and Deaf” for broadcast. The film premiered in November 2006.

In 2005, Adam wrote and directed the short comedy “Jinx!” a hilarious tale of a bitter rivalry between two second grade girls that spirals out of control. “Jinx!” premiered in June at the 2007 NewFestival in New York City and was accepted into the 2007 LA Shorts Film Festival.

The Independent Film Channel has acquired “Jinx!” for broadcast in North America, where the film is scheduled to premiere in the fall of 2007.
